Probably the quirkiest of all English folk rock bands, Blyth are now celebrating thirty years of writing and performing by putting together an electric four piece to premiere new material balanced with old classics. Once described as Steeleye Span meets The Clash, Blyth Power go to places where other bands are simply out of their depth. Driven by a love of railway engines and history, the lyrics of Joseph Porter (pictured) move from The Fall of Troy to the private musings of Mary Tudor to The Abdication of Edward VIII. And beyond.
Not a band to compromise, they promise a literate, challenging and dynamic evening. On the evidence of a recent gig in Derby where they performed as an acoustic duo and Joseph Porter's vocals and Annie Hatcher's keyboards warmed up a freezing Bank Holiday Weekend,, this is a gig to look out for.
Hopefully Blyth will pull into Belper with a full head of steam to complement what promises to be a  remarkable weekend.
Support from Chris Butler who promises to play an entirely different set from the Steve Ignorant gig on the preceding evening. I believe him.

David Rovics and Chris Butler.

A great night of passionate and original songwriting. Very much what The Queens Head is all about -and a model for what a good venue should be. Chris's new material was well received and David Rovics showed us why he is rated as one of the world's great topical songwriters.
