Headsticks' vibrant fusion of folk roots and punk energy returns to Belper on May 14th.
Rising fully formed in late 2012 from the ashes of Tower Struck Down, Jugopunch and The Clay Faces, the band were quick to make their mark on the festival scene opening the Tolpuddle Festival in 2013 where the Stoke on Trent sound clearly won the crowd over and set the scene for a great weekend.
A year later their first album 'Muster' was released to favourable reviews with comparisons being made with The Jam and The Levellers while acknowledging the uniqueness of The Headsticks sound.
Their new album 'Feather and Flame' has drawn even more rapturous reviews for its 'addictive melodies and barbed lyrics.
Occupying the zone where folk and punk collide, expect an evening of roots rock and roll and punked up energy. Support is from Chris Butler whose own records have received enthusiastic reviews. There will be a range of new and more established Butlertunes.

This original comedy-drama by Kate Bramley (ex Hull Truck Theatre) also features music by Sony Radio Academy Award Winner Jez Lowe. The play focuses on a village like our local Bradbourne during the years of WW1 and follows the lives of three women after their men-folk have departed for the killing fields of Flanders. As the women face up to reality with hope and resilience, the play explores the reality of those left behind.
A play with 'defiant humour, emotional clout and a poignant final twist' (York Press) the play shines a bold and original light on the experiences of the war years.
Tickets on sale at Oxfam, Belper or contact mjones572@hotmail.co.uk.

BROOKS WILLIAMS. APRIL 16th. £8. Support from Tony Stark. Doors at 8.00pm.

Brooks Williams returns to The Queens Head on April 16th. Hailing from Statesboro', Georgia where they know a thing or two about blues players, Brooks has been consistently voted among the world's top 100 guitarists and most would place him in the higher ranks of that select body. His music has been described as the aural equivalent of ' drinking whisky from a honey jar.' Sweet and seductive but with a distinctive bite.
Now resident in Cambridge UK, Brooks still tours extensively on both sides of the pond while finding time for collaborations with other musicians, notably his 'State of the Union' project with songwriter Boo Hewardine. No mean songsmith himself, Brooks will bring a dynamic range of original and traditional material to the Belper stage.
On this occasion Brooks will be supported by local guitar maestro, Tony Stark so an evening of great songs and consummate playing.
Tickets are available at the venue or contact mjones572@hotmail.co.uk.
