This is one gig where you really do not want to turn up at half time.A unique triple bill brings us local boy gone bad,Chris Butler, performance poet Dwane Reads and the band which is currently the talk of the alt folk world
.Formed in late 2012,Headsticks sprang fully formed  from the ashes of Tower Struck Down,Jugopunch and The Clay Faces. The Clay Faces of course need no introduction to Belper audiences who will remember inspired performances at The Top Bar and Belper Festival. It was not long before the band spread out in all directions from their native Stoke on Trent and last summer they won a whole new group of friends when they opened at The Tolpuddle Festival. Inevitably there were comparisons with artists as diverse as Billy Bragg and The Housemartins for their sharply pointed lyrics and buoyant, infectious melodies.
This will be a varied and enthralling night with support from performance poet Dwayne Reads and Chris Butler.
Admission £7 with advance tickets available at the venue or contact mjones572@hotmail.co.uk.
Doors at 8.00pm.

What made Milwaukee famous ? In this case, it's not the beer although Peter Mulvey's music cooks up a heady and intoxicating brew. After leaving college, Peter took flight to Dublin to learn his craft from busking before returning to the USA and Boston with its already vibrant street and subway scene : a scene which incidentally also spawned a certain David Rovics.

With a formidable vocal range and individual guitar technique, Peter is now an established writer and performer who has even written for the stage including work for the great Sam Shepard.
However, perhaps his most intriguing venture was to record an album of covers 'Ten Thousand Mornings' in that very Boston subway where he learned his trade. Peter puts this down to his penchant for 'hands-dirty' art although this experiment also pushed recording techniques into a new and interesting direction.

Peter is clearly a no-compromise artist and most welcome to The Top Bar after a lengthy absence. New album 'Silver Ladder' produced by the great Chuck Prophett, accompanies him.

Sunjay Brayne at The Queens Head. March 15th. Advance tickets £6. £7 on door. Support from Charlie Barker.

Although now resident in the West Midlands,Sunjay was born in Derby and must thus be accounted a local hero on a steeply upward trajectory. At the tender age of 19 he has already recorded and toured with the likes of Dave Pegg, John Renbourn and Wizz Jones and when the likes of Terry Reid acclaim his guitar prowess you just know that something is happening.
However, it was opening nationwide for folk rock legends Steeleye Span which really attracted wider notice for a major young talent. More than just another technically gifted blues player, Sunjay channels the genre via the work of the great sixties pioneers such as Tom Rush and Jackson.C.Franks and draws in folk and country roots into a glorious eclectic mix.
No stranger to festivals and larger venues, Sunjay's music is perhaps best appreciated in the intimacy of a venue like the Top Bar.
Support from Charlie Barker. Advance tickets available at the pub or contact: mjones572@hotmail.co.uk.
