PLUM HALL. APRIL 11th. Admission £7. Doors at 8.15pm.

28/3/2015

Michelle Plum and Nick B Hall make their Belper debuts on Saturday April 11th.

Picture
Long term collaborators with other musicians, Plum Hall released their first album 'Thundercloud' in September 2014 and were swiftly acclaimed as one of The Guardian's hidden gems of last year. Playing a dynamic range of pop and folk, comparisons inevitably followed with some critics comparing their writing and playing to that of Pentangle (farewell John Renbourn) and others acclaiming the duo's live performances as 'like Springsteen and Emmy Lou.'
The pedigree is interesting with Michelle Plum's stint as part of Chumbawamba and Nick Hall's membership of the Hall Brothers who have toured extensively with the likes of Fairport Convention, Glen Tilbrook and Show of Hands.
Their Belper debut is therefore an intriguing prospect with fine writing and dynamic performance to be expected.

ZZ birmingham band return to Belper.

Top quality musicianship is not always matched by great showmanship and exuberance but ZZ birmingham are that rarity -  a band that never neglects its duty to entertain.According to Folk Roots,' ZZ rattles and moans like a freight train with its cowcatcher come loose.' The Chicago Blues at its very best.
Tickets available at the venue or contact mjones572@hotmail.co.uk.

Robb Johnson with support from Bad Fishermen. Friday March 20th. £7. Doors at 8.00pm.

Robb Johnson returns to Belper on Friday March 20th. Support from Bad Fishermen who make their eagerly awaited Belper debut.

Picture
Widely regarded as our greatest political songwriter, Robb returns to Belper on the back of a phenomenal year. The timely reissue of 'The Gentle Men', Robb's WW1 cycle, saw Robb very much the flavour of 2014. His performance at The Tolpuddle Festival was real proof of how great songs can both command and challenge an audience.

Attracting plaudits from both ends of the political spectrum, Robb must be one of the few artists to be venerated by both The Daily Telegraph and Tony Benn who cited 'Winter Turns to Spring' as his favourite song. A firebrand but one with true wit and compassion.

Mike Hind and Phil Doleman Double Bill. March 14th. Admission £7. Doors at 8.00pm.

Another night of the ukulele beckons following last years collaboration between Phil and Dead Man's Uke.

Phil Doleman needs little introduction to a Belper audience following his years as a 'Re-Entrant' and subsequent adventures. Now he brings with him Mike Hind also known as Uncle Elvis. Bermudan based but with Belper connections, Mike is not only a uke maestro but also the possessor of a fine baritone voice which he feels hindered his progress in the field of punk rock. A full-time art curator, he delights Bermuda with his playing, song writing and humour.
The ukulele rides again !
