The mighty Headsticks are of course headlining on Saturday night but there is more here to engage and entertain from an array of stalls and activities to a wide range of music, dance and spoken word.

Two stages will operate throughout Saturday and Sunday but on Friday night inside Belper Rugby Club the festival will kick off with the stellar line up of Red Ruff, The Fat Valley Brothers, Moon Bullet and Water for Dogs. This probably the strongest line up of local talent that Belper can offer.
It all starts at 7.00pm Friday. See you there.

Phil Doleman and Ian Emmerson + Flea Bitten Dawgs. May 20th. £7. Doors  at 8.00pm

Phil and Ian of course need no introduction to Belper audiences. As the Re-Entrants, they spearheaded the ukulele revolution and broke the instrument to a wide audience. Since then, individually and in tandem, they have continued to popularise their distinctive brand of good-time ragtime and blues with the occasional nod in the direction of 17thC court music.
The Dawgs on the other hand came together via a radio broadcast in St Louis, Missouri since when they have toured every state in the USA, released a string of CDs and had material covered by the likes of The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Proclaiming their music to be Ukulele Jazz Americana, it has been described as like a 'cross beteween Garcia/Grisman and Willie Nelson backed by Django Rheinhardt'. The Garcia is of course the late frontman of The Grateful Dead and his offshoot recordings with Dave Grisman and Peter Rowan were one of the delights of the 1970s.
Surprisingly, this is their first European tour so turn up early as you won't want to miss one tune from such an outstanding double bill.

ALL TOGETHER NOW ! SAVE AND CELEBRATE BABINGTON HOSPITAL. MAY 12th. BELPER BAPTIST CHURCH. £5. 7.30pm.

The campaign to save our community hospital is now underway. With thousands of signatures already on the online and paper petitions, Belper has clearly shown that it needs and loves its community hospital.

As part of Belper Festival, we are delighted to present an evening of music and spoken word featuring Pete Castle, Sue Macfarlane, Danny Webber, Annette Oakes and Joel and Nick Glyn-Davies. The best of Belper indeed.

Tickets are £5 and on sale at Oxfam or available at the door. Come and celebrate and prove that campaigning can be fun.
