Barely into his twenty third year, Sunjay's musical repertoire reaches back to the early years of the last century encompassing folk and blues roots from the likes of Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell.
As his latest album 'Black and Blues' ably demonstrates, he is not only a virtuoso guitarist but also an accomplished interpreter of song with a depth and maturity belying his years. In fact, standards like 'Duncan and Brady' take on a new life bringing roots music to a new and appreciative audience.
This is something of a special double bill as opening for Sunjay will be West Midlands veteran Eddy Morton. You might have caught the quality of his writing on Sunjay's last album with songs like 'London Road' so please turn up early for this one.
Tickets will be available for this gig and for Winter Wilson ( March 12th) both from the venue itself or by  contacting mjones572@hotmail.co.uk. See you all there.

ROBB JOHNSON and CHRIS BUTLER. FRIDAY FEB 19th. £7. Doors at 8.00pm.

Tony Benn's favourite songwriter returns to The Queens Head on Friday Feb 19th. The Grand Old Man of British politics always maintained that ' When Winter Turns to Spring' was his best loved song and Robb has justifiably always been linked with political causes. However, like his contemporary Billy Bragg, Robb is also capable of writing a stunning love song and frequently uses humour to enforce a serious observation.

A veteran of the club and festival scene - he comperes the annual Tolpuddle Festival -Robb was also a leading light of the BBC's Folk Britannia concert where he led the ensemble in a rousing encore of 'Hanging on the old barbed wire'. Indeed, his WW1 cycle,'The Gentle Men' remains one of the outstanding achievements of the contemporary folk scene.

To complement an evening of fine writing and performances, our very own Mr Chris Butler will perform a set including new material.

The age of the songwriter indeed !

PETE MORTON at THE QUEENS HEAD. FEB 13th. £7. Doors at 8.00pm.

Last Friday Sally Barker rounded off an outstanding set with a rousing rendition of 'Another Train' and next Saturday we welcome back the very man who wrote such a great standard. Not that Pete Morton only has one great song in his locker ! On the contrary, he is one of folk's great innovators skillfully blending musical strands from trad folk to high speed rap into an impressive repertoire.

From busker to global troubadour, Pete Morton is an artist who has never stood still. From solo outings to a range of collaborations, he has always placed himself firmly at the cutting edge of contemporary folk. Great songs and performances which never give less than 150%.

'Top drawer songwriting shot though with integrity'.

Finally, this seems to be the month of the songwriter with the return of Robb Johnson on Friday Feb 19th  supported by Chris Butler and looking ahead into March we welcome back Sunjay on March 5th and Winter Wilson on March 12th. Watch the skies !
