When Harp and a Monkey made their Belper debut last year, they were something of an unknown quantity. However, only a few weeks later they were playing The Royal Exchange, Manchester to a capacity audience as part of a WW1 cycle and are now widely tipped for that quantum leap to 'something big'. With instrumentation and electronic embellishments breaking the boundaries of conventional folk, the trio's songwriting is also defiantly different mixing their own themes with re-writes of traditional songs. Sometimes trance-like and sometimes gritty their words and music are deeply rooted in their native Lancashire. Add to this strong vocals and arrangements with miniature harp and glockenspiel to the fore and you begin to understand why they have been described as an 'Incredible String Band for the 21st Century'.
