Citing influences as diverse as Bert Jansch,Bellowhead, Ordnance Survey Maps and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Harp are clearly not your average folk trio and have been described as an 'Incredible String Band for the 21st century'. Blending traditional instrumentation with electronica and found sounds, they will bring something very unique to this venue.
Formed in 2008, Harp and a Monkey's music and storytelling is deeply rooted in their native North West. With the purpose of gigging a lot and making music that was deeply traditional but also incredibly modern, Harp have won many friends on the club and festival circuit. Featuring a published historian in the shape of Martin Purdy, their narratives range from World War One to the Kinder Trespass and the Spanish Civil War and from July 2014 they will be presenting their own song cycle to commemorate the centenary of WW1.
