As austerity bites so does the We Shall Overcome movement rally in support of those in most need. This time, we welcome Joe Solo, one of those who kick started the movement nearly one year ago. Musician, writer, broadcaster, poet, activist and washing machine engineer, Joe hails from Scarborough where he also finds the time to host a show on Radio Scarborough, research the WW1 history of the Hull Pals Battalion and work with underprivileged children helping them to celebrate their lives in music. Something of a renaissance man !

WInter Wilson bring their unique brand of joyous rebellion back to The Queens Head. For many, they were the outstanding act on the main stage at last year's Derby Folk Festival and there were a few other big names on that bill. Now touring a new album 'Ashes and Dust' they return to a more intimate setting. Their last album 'Cutting Free' featured in The Daily Telegraph's top ten for 2014 and the new one is eagerly anticipated. Dave Wilson is now widely recognised as one of our foremost song writers always working on a broad canvas from WW1 to the world of relationships , natural disasters and murder, the latter satisfying the folk police. Kip Winter's jazz and classically trained voice always brings a new dimension to the traditional folk blues format. On this occasion, they are supported by Carol Hodges who last graced The Top Bar as a member of Steve Ignorant's Slice of Life. Tickets are available at the venue or contact [email protected]. |
